Lugana DOC, Bianco di Custoza DOC
These are two of my favorite under the radar Italian wine regions. I love crisp fresh white wines, but I also love wines with texture and length in the finish. I get them here!
Confusion regarding the grape variety in Lugana
So the grape in Lugana is Verdicchio, but a special clone of Verdicchio that used to be called Trebbiano di Lugana. But it turns out the grape is not related to the Trebbiano family of grapes. Add to that confusion the fact that I was saying Vermentino (which is from Sardinia) to my classes for many years and you get the picture. Yikes!
