Introduction of suggested maps and books for the Burgundy Superclass

There are some great wine books out there on Burgundy, and the best give clear info without too much detail. It’s easy to go down the rabbit hole of Burgundy info! Maps are of course super important. The following books are the one I’d suggest for this course.

Before the books … here are some map links

Download and print a range of Burgundy maps, and we’ll include more links as the course unfolds.

Burgundy tourism department maps … these are great all-purpose maps

Vineyards.com Burgundy map … accurate and detailed

Cellartours.com Burgundy map … very pretty!

Here’s a very nice one on Etsy, perfect for the wall.

Vinmaps makes a very nice and very big map as well.

These are the greatest (and most expensive) Cote d’Or maps available.

And you can find a ton of other maps through a simple Google image search.

Course-focused books … these are awesome!

The Sommelier’s Atlas of Taste by Rajat Parr

An amazing book by one of the leading voices for wine. This book brings new thinking and fresh perspectives of key wine regions throughout France, Italy, and Spain. A must buy.

Burgundy (Guides to Wines and Top Vineyards) 2021, by Benjamin Lewin MW

This book seriously overdelivers for the money. It’s small, to the point, updated, and clear. Focuses on the Cote d’Or but gives great advice regarding producers and vintages. (All of his books are worthwhile.)

The Great Domaines of Burgundy, by Remington Norman

A classic, with tons of information on top producers including land holdings, family history, and more. The only drawback is the last update was in 2010 and some of the info is a touch out of date. However, a wonderful book for the Burgundy lover especially if you like to read about the history of producers.

My favorite all purpose wine books

World Atlas of Wine Vol. 8, by Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson

The go-to atlas for wine. Incredible maps, great info, and fully updated. This is a great book to buy in the Apple iBooks store, for the digital version is optimized for the iPad with easy navigation, zooming in and out, and more.

The Wine Bible Vol. 2 by Karen MacNeil

One of the best all-purpose wine books out there. A must for every wine lover.
